The G type was the company’s attempt at producing a low-cost motor car.
The car was built on a chassis similar to the F type but with a wheelbase reduced by 9”. As catalogued the car shared the F types three-speed gearbox coupled to a Meadows 4EB engine. However, a few later G-Types, the G(4) as Lea-Francis designated them, were fitted with the standard Lea-Francis four-speed gearbox. Some of the later cars were fitted with the more powerful Meadows 4EC engine or the Anzani side valve engine and one was even fitted with a Meadows 4ED to 12/50 specification with the twin-port head and Brooklands camshaft.
Bodies on the G-Type were mostly two-seater tourers with a dickey seat, built mostly by Robinson and then Cross & Ellis. As standard, the G type was supplied in saxe blue bodywork with plain blue leather upholstery. In 1926 the G type sold for £210. Some later cars carried four-seater tourer bodies and at least one was sold as "chassis-only".
It is thought 122 G types were built and the remains of one or two may have survived.
